WASHINGTON — White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller sparked backlash after saying undocumented immigrants are not entitled to due process when being removed from the United States, arguing that granting full legal proceedings would make deportations impossible.     In a viral video, Miller claimed there are “15 million illegal aliens” and said giving each a full trial would take centuries, asserting they “had no due process entering the country” and therefore do not deserve it during removal.   Legal experts note, however, that Supreme Court precedent has long held that noncitizens on U.S. soil are protected by the Fifth Amendment’s due process clause, even in civil immigration proceedings.   Immigration researchers also disputed Miller’s numbers, with Pew Research Center estimating the undocumented population at roughly 10.5 to 11 million.   His remarks come as the Supreme Court prepares to hear a challenge to President Trump’s executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship, an issue Miller has increasingly framed as a long-term threat tied to assimilation and national identity.
